#AYearOfBuses 242: Aldgate – Homerton Hospital

We’re heading back to London for day 242 on #AYearOfBuses, to take a look at one of east London’s frequent bus routes.

Arriva London’s route 242 started life in 1998, running between Tottenham Court Road and Homerton Hospital using a fleet – initially at least – of Leyland Olympians. Arriva quickly replaced the Olympians with low floor Alexander ALX400-bodied DAF DB250s.

The 242 has been in the hands of Arriva since its inception, though it’s been around a fair few London garages, and used several vehicle types in that time. Earlier in 2019, it was rerouted from Tottenham Court Road to Aldgate, and withdrawn between St Paul’s and Tottenham Court Road.
