#AYearOfBuses 109: Scarborough’s Seafront Service

There could only be one winner for day 109 on #AYearOfBuses – Scarborough’s famous Seafront Service.

A trip to the seaside just isn’t the same without a ride on an open top bus! Scarborough’s 109 takes a scenic meander around Marine Drive, connecting Scarborough Spa and the South Bay with the town’s North Bay.

Through the Spring and Summer months, it’s a lucrative attraction, with the spoils shared by now Go-Ahead-owned East Yorkshire, and local independent Shoreline Suncruisers. But it’s East Yorkshire’s operations we’re focusing on here today, having had the most illustrious history and selection of buses! Of particular note in Summer 1996, East Yorkshire converted four Routemasters to open top for the 109, complete with giant bows on the front – they lasted until 2002.
