Today’s day 363 on #AYearOfBuses, and it’s another of our final five fantastic bus routes to finish off the series. We’re taking a look at South Notts 1.
Today in the caring hands of Nottingham City Transport, the 1 is – quite simply – an institution. Taking the scenic route between Nottingham and Loughborough, it follows the path of the former Great Central Railway, stopping along the way at Clifton, and the picturesque villages of Gotham, East Leake and Stanford on Soar.
It was the crowning glory of the former South Notts Bus Company, which ran the route from their HQ in Gotham (which NCT has retained), with a fleet of distinctive navy and cream buses. The 1 started life in 1926, running from Gotham to Nottingham, and became part of the NCT empire when the company bought South Notts in 1991.
NCT continue to use the South Notts brand name to this day, on a fleet of navy and silver double deckers which still tread this age old route.
