#AYearOfBuses 264: Totnes – Exeter

It’s time for a look at a recently-lost bus route today on #AYearOfBuses.

Stagecoach’s scenic X64 previously ran all the way from the city of Exeter, to the market town of Totnes in Devon via Newton Abbot. Though now renumbered, it’s still possible to take a Stagecoach bus through this stunning part of the world – it’s now the 7/7A.

Totnes has a long recorded history dating back to 907, when its first castle was built. By the twelfth century it was already an important market town, and its former wealth and importance can be seen from the number of merchants’ houses built in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries which still survive today.
