#AYearOfBuses 253: Hackney Central – Euston

Today’s winner on #AYearOfBuses is a London bus route with a difference – it has a song named after it!

Arriva’s route 253 links Hackney Central, in east London, with Clapton, Finsbury Park, Camden Town and Euston. It’s the inspiration behind an album track on Just Jacks’s album, All Night Cinema, named ‘253’.

By no means the most direct route between Hackney and Euston, the 253 takes a wide, arching route across the north of the city to reach its destination. These days, it’s in the hands of Boris Johnson’s New Routemasters – 28 of them in fact – with a peak frequency of every 5-8 mins, and buses running 24 hours a day.
