#AYearOfBuses 225: Blackburn – Bolton

Today’s winner on #AYearOfBuses is a long-established scenic bus route linking Lancashire with Greater Manchester.

The 1, from The Blackburn Bus Company, is the southern half of the one-time Ribble route 225, which ran from Clitheroe to Whalley, Blackburn, Darwen and Bolton. In 2012, the 225 was split, with the northern section between Clitheroe and Blackburn becoming the 22 – or Valleyline, as it’s now known.

The 1 takes a scenic route through the Lancashire countryside, visiting Darwen and the quaint village of Egerton along the way. Later this year, it’ll receive an upgrade with a fleet of brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro200MMCs.
