#AYearOfBuses 336: Lewisham – Battersea Park

London bus 436

Today’s day 336 on #AYearOfBuses – and we’re taking a look at one of only two routes to be operated by bendybuses from their birth.

At least, we believe that’s the case! The 436 was introduced in 2003 (alongside the other ‘bendy’ route, the 453) to replace a section of route 36 between New Cross and Lewisham. At the time of its birth, it was run by brand new Mercedes-Benz Citaro G articulated buses.

Today, it’s home to a fleet of rather more mundane double deckers from London Central’s pool at New Cross garage, with buses running every 7-12 mins between Lewisham, New Cross Gate, Peckham, Camberwell, Vauxhall and Battersea Park.
