#AYearOfBuses 317: Rochdale – Manchester

Today on #AYearOfBuses, we’re taking a look at one of Greater Manchester’s core bus routes – the 17.

Now in the hands of newcomer Go North West, the 17 is a long-standing bus route linking the Greater Manchester town of Rochdale with Middleton, Blackley, Harpurhey and Manchester.

It originated in 1914, when the tram route linking Manchester with Middleton was given the number 17. At over ten miles long, it was Manchester Corporation Tramways’ longest route, jointly operated with Rochdale Corporation.
