#AYearOfBuses 249: Clapham Common – Anerley

Today’s day 249 on #AYearOfBuses, and we’re taking a look at a South London Arriva stalwart.

The 249 began life in 1991, which believe it or not, is almost 30 years ago now! Initially running 6 days a week between Crystal Palace and Tooting Bec station, it now links Anerley Station, close to Crystal Palace, with Streatham, Balham and Clapham Common.

Initially a single deck route, it was upgraded to double deckers in 1999, with Leyland Olympians replacing step entrance Plaxton Pointer-bodied Dennis Darts. The Olympians lasted a good few years before themselves being replaced by low floor ALX400-bodied B7TLs in 2005.
