#AYearOfBuses 227: Bromley North – Crystal Palace

Today’s winner on #AYearOfBuses is a London bus route which was, up until recently, home to a fleet of rare Stagecoach Citaros.

Tracing its roots all the way back to 1934, the 227 of today links Crystal Palace, in south London, with Penge, Beckenham and Bromley. It’s played host to many different bus types over the years including Carlyle Dartline-bodied Dennis Darts.

More recently, it’s been home to a fleet of rare beasts for Stagecoach – 12metre rigid Mercedes-Benz Citaros. In fact – correct us if we’re wrong, please – we think these are the only rigid Citaros ever bought by Stagecoach (they had plenty of bendies when they were all the rage in the capital).
