#AYearOfBuses 189: Lancaster – Knott End

Today on #AYearOfBuses, we’re taking a look at a route we didn’t get to feature on day 89 – it’s Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hire’s 89 to Knott End.

Ignore our photo – that’s a Stagecoach bus.

There aren’t many bus routes in the British Isles you’ll find which start or finish at ferry terminals, but Kirkby Lonsdale Coach Hires’ 89 does exactly that. Knott End sits atop the Wyre Estuary, directly across the water from Fleetwood. There’s a small ferry which completes the crossing from Knott End to Fleetwood Ferry every 30 mins, with a journey time of 3 mins, and the 89 meets the ferry at its terminal.

From Knott End, the 89 takes a scenic route along Morecambe Bay, with panoramic vistas of the bay and surrounding marshes, up to Lancaster, with a journey time of around 1hr 10 mins.
