#AYearOfBuses 161: Frankley – Birmingham

Today on #AYearOfBuses we’re taking a look at a key city route serving one of Birmingham’s main corridors.

It’s pretty rare these days to find a route which has actually been downgraded from a premium route, rather than upgraded, as is the trend in 2019. But that’s exactly what’s happened with the 61.

A former ‘premium’ Platinum route, the 61 lost its high-spec buses in 2018 in favour of lower spec buses running at a higher frequency with more stops. At the same time, a new route, the X20 was created, replacing the fast buses along the A38 / Selly Oak corridor.
