#AYearOfBuses 157: Exmouth – Sidmouth

It’s back to the south coast for our winner today on #AYearOfBuses!

Previously branded as Coasthopper 157 using a fleet of step-entrance Plaxton Pointer-bodied Dennis Darts, Stagecoach’s 157 takes a leisurely stroll along the Jurassic Coast between Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth.

From Exmouth, it runs east towards Budleigh Salterton on the edge of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, complete with its protected quartzite pebble beach and triassic fossils (if you can find them!). From there, it heads east further still, to the quaint Devon town of Sidmouth, where you’ll find equally dramatic cliffs.

Matt, you should be mentioning the wonderful villages of East Budleigh – birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh and Roger Conant, founder of Salem MA – and Otterton, Picture postcard villages, and even more wonderful is the skill of the drivers manoeuvering their vehicles along the narrow roads, especially in the villages.
