#AYearOfBuses 31: York – Easingwold – Helmsley

31X

That’s it! 31 January. That’s one whole month of #AYearOfBuses. And today, we’re heading into deepest rural North Yorkshire for a proper treat.

Run by Transdev’s York-based subsidiary, York & Country, the 31X heads north out of the historic city of York, out towards some of the most historic and beautiful landscapes to be found anywhere across the entire British Isles.

Born out of the collapse of former independent, Stephensons of Easingwold, York & Country share the section of the route between York and Easingwold with another independent, Reliance, together providing frequent buses from the rural villages north of York into the city centre.

After leaving York, the 31X runs through the charming rural village of Easingwold, before crossing some of the most beautiful countryside the UK has to offer, littered with the ruins of former monasteries. Byland Abbey, once one of the greatest monasteries in England, is simply spectacular. Byland was closed in 1538 by King Henry VIII as part of the Suppression of the Monasteries, and today, the 31X stops right outside the very front of these magnificent ruins.

Thanks to Scott Poole for today’s stunning photo.
