#AYearOfBuses 5: 555 Lancaster – Kendal – Keswick

Lakes Connection

Get ready to add this one to your bucket list. One of the UK’s longest – and most scenic – bus routes takes today’s spot on #AYearOfBuses.

Well, it’d be a little boring to simply rattle through the numbers 1 to 365 for #AYearOfBuses, and we’d be missing out on some cracking routes such as this one.

Enter some creative licence, and Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire’s Lakes Connection 555, one of the UK’s longest bus routes.

Standing at a whopping 45 miles long end-to-end, Lakes Connection 555 connects Lancaster with Kendal, Ambleside and Keswick in the heart of the Lakes, passing through spectacular scenery, from the serenity of Windermere to the dramatic hills of Carnforth and Cumbria. It can trace its illustrious history all the way back through to the days of Ribble Motor Services – only back then, the route was even longer, running all the way through to Carlisle.

As if the route itself wasn’t stunning enough, Stagecoach has invested £2.5m in a fleet of 12 Alexander Dennis Enviro400MMCs, bought for the route in 2016 and wearing a sumptuous Best Impressions-designed livery reflecting the beauty of the landscapes the buses traverse. They feature high-backed Lazzerini seating (an absolute necessity!), and as you’d expect, free WiFi and USB charging onboard.
